Καλημέρα αγαπητέ !
How is it going?
Today it's me - the great Greek Pan himself ! - speaking to you ….!
Am I right, did they say yesterday that I smell bad? That I smell ripe like an old goat?
Well I guess you humans should simply clear your petted noses - I mean - who else in this universe can announce him or herself with a good dose of a very special perfume??! This is the scent of love and eternal becoming and anyway - if you climb that Lykanion as many times as I do - you sweat! ‘knowwhattimean?? gosh!
But ok, guys, honestly, you did quite a job yesterday - first amazing sounds comin’ in! Didn’t know about all that reed in all those odd places you humans live nowadays!
ευχαριστώ, ευχαριστώ !
But, I have to tell you something… There is this girl…
Ah, forgive me - she’s a lady… I can’t get her out of my ears!
Please meet the wonderful sculptress of sound and pioneer of electronic music Lady Delia Derbyshire!
She is so great! Delia played around with tape and cuts and equalizers and created the most amazing sounds. Sounds, most people never heard before! Something truly new to our ears!
On 23rd of November in 1963 - the BBC aired the first episode of Doctor Who. The opening theme of the episode was something unheard. Some say, the kids were hiding behind the sofa when hearing this. The young woman who created that new and a bit frightening tune was Delia - but unfortunately she never got the credits for it during her lifetime. The BBC said as an excuse that they don’t “hire composers” or name them… But Delia experimented and created so much more in that peculiar Radiophonic Workshop. Listen to what she says about her own work here. And here.
Delia also recreated Bach’s Air …. something quite on the edge of what was allowed …
I tell you - Delia might look like a well-tempered British lady - but she did her kind of divine magic…
I am in love.
(and I guess I am not alone - the whole crew is kind of in 7th sky….)
But - after all, we are here to work! Here we go with task two:
Today's task is to record a gentle, soft sound of something natural around you.
Go close and closer, observe your material, touch it, try to make it sound … but gentlly, gently ....
Please share your sound and an image (it can be a picture /drawing / film of the natural thing that produces todays sound) with us:
Post a film / recording (around 1 minute in length) with an image on Instagram using the #panshollowreed #ambientradio (like this, we find your work!)
Also please upload your sounds on Google drive right here. Please give your track the following title: panshollowreed_yourname_yourplace (example: panshollowreed_delia_mountlykaion). Like this we find your work for the weekly remix! >> Here you find some more instructions)
So let’s go and find some soft, atmospheric sounds - they will please Delia and ease my heartache!
φιλί / φιλί / αγάπη / αγάπη
Love and Kisses
Pan and the whole crew!
Ps: btw. If you have questions, doubts or need advice on deodorants - just write an email or post in the facebook group!
