Season 3 Week 3 Day 12: My beloved Piazza comes with many ornaments … Greetings from Vienna!

Good morning dear Ears in all the different corners of the universe!

We are happy to see you today!

Today we start in a very sporty way! Today, we follow some real cool Parkour guys playing around using the “furniture” available in the piazza!

Yes, it looks simple as a kiss! The internet is full of cool tutorials for new beginners - in case you would want to try it yourself … :-)

Of course we know that in English you say “Break a leg”, in French “casser une jambe”, “rompersi una gamba” in italiano, “Hals- und Beinbruch” in German …. but please - don’t take that too literally!

We still need you fresh and fit to complete a task today!

Obviously, it's no coincidence that we observe the Parkour people doing their art: Today’s task is to take a close look at the elements that create the public square.

Maybe there is one of Jeppe Hein's beautiful benches? The artist creates special benches that bring people together … Maybe there is a game on the floor? Or even a musical swing?

Maybe there are elements that should protect the square? Police Blocks out of concrete, maybe decorated with tags and graffiti?

Quite often in history, the fate of a whole nation is decided on an important square: the Tiananmen Square, or the Taksim Square in Turkey are two of them. It is important to remember - so let us know - what does your square stand for? Maybe there is a bronze sculpture of the city founder?

We want to dig a little bit deeper today - let’s have a look at all those details!

Today’s task is to record the sounds of the different elements that create your main square. It can be sounds and murmurs from the past, it can be the sound of different materials - wander around and get inspired!

Please share your sound and an image / video with us:

As much as we admire the famous big squares of the world - with all their history - we also love the little piazzas and their hidden secrets …!

We are looking forward to receiving your sonic postcard!

And before we leave you, we like to share another lovely soundmail with you! Today, Pit Schmidt wrote to us from Vienna! Pit plays saxophone in punk and noisebands, works and in the early 80s, a cactus in the desert of Nevada explained to him what “ambient” is … Enjoy listening to his great postcard from Vienna in our podcast!

And soon we will reply with musical greetings from Berne - six days to go until the grande finale at the Sonohr Festival!

Love and Kisses, the Ambient Radio Crew
