Season 3 Week 2 Day 10: Water is Life - a Lifeline of Droplets

Hello hello dear friends!

Water is Life!

That is why everyone gets so excited to see water on Mars - because it means - is there life on Mars? (Ok, we admit it, this intro was all about …. being able to quote David Bowie :-))

Yes, Water is Life!

Today, we want to ponder about this - and we start in a region, where water is scarce … Filippo Romano is an Italian photographer who has worked in Kenya for many years. He photographed a lot of water tanks in the Mathare slums in Nairobi. Recently, he published a beautiful artist's book about the water tanks in Mathare. People living there have to buy their water from licensed sellers and carry it home. Water is a rare good, running water does not exist in the reality of a slum. Filippo shared some of his experiences with us - listen to what he tells in our podcast No. 2!

Water is Life!

The last task of this week is to create a hymn to the waters surrounding us! We want to celebrate the waterworlds!

Are you ready?

So here is how we end this week:

Combine your field recordings from this week into an ode or hymn to the water body of your choice. Feel free to add a festive touch to it!

Please share your sound and an image / video with us:

  • Post a film / recording (around 1 minute in length) with an image on Instagram using the #waterlifeline #ambientradiogoessonohr #ambientradio #sonohr (like this, we find your work!) OR:

  • Upload your sounds on Google drive. Please give your track the following title: yourname_day10. Like this we find your work for the weekly remix! OR:

  • Alternatively, drop an audiofile into our Telegram chat!

Thank you so much for having been part of our watery journey this week! It was a pleasure to hear all your adventures and to meet all the different waters of the world!

To finish the day, we share some nice references to water literature …

Of course we are curious what kind of books or songs about water you would add?

So this is our little extra task - share a reference in your caption or in our Telegram channel!

For now, we leave you for the weekend and we cheer on you with a glass of cold lovely water!

Looking forward to continuing our journey next week!

Love and Kisses, the Ambient Radio Crew

Ps: On the Norient Plattform you can find also many different articles about works, that use water sound samples to talk about political issues in the present and the past. For example Moro's EP San Benito uses water sounds to talk about slavery and current refugee crisis.
