Season 3 Week 1 Day 3: Mapping the Construction of the Park

Good morning!

We followed you through the portal and today, we are immersed in the beauty of your park. It is still winter in the Northern hemisphere - so for the lush greenery, we would have to go South … But the parks in winter reveal their accurate layout and the thoughtful hands and minds that imagined their ensemble…. it is like you would suddenly be able to see the essence of your park … Imagine flying in a drone over the area: What patterns do emerge? Someone, maybe in a very distant time, made a plan that led to the creation of your park. Who is that someone who imagined the pattern, the flow or the layout of your park? That someone created an initial map … Maybe there is a signpost with an overview of the park somewhere near the entrance that can help you get a bird's view of the world that is hiding behind the entrance?

You might have heard of the famous French and English gardens created by skillful landscape architects in the 18th and 19th century… For example Lancelot Brown or “Capability Brown” - as he was called, was the most important figure in the art of the English Gardens that were fanciful in the 18th century and became famous all over Europe … Oh dear - a trip to England, that would be nice! For now, we share a list of famous gardens to explore virtually in Google street view - maybe worth a try while waiting for lush and green days to come up here North?

Ladies and Gentlemen, before we get lost in 18th century reveries, we have today’s task to fulfil! Today, we want you to create a map of your park with sounds. What are the different elements you can find? Gravel paths? Grass patches? Flower beds? What do they sound like? Create a recording that leads us through your park and gives us an overview of the elements and the connections between them. We think, here, rhythm comes in, the rhythm of your feet on the ground maybe?

This is the moment where you can get as creative as you like! We want you to become the gardener in your park, so feel free to play around with sounds and to let your imagination run wild …

Please share your sound and an image / video with us:

  • Post a film / recording (around 1 minute in length) with an image on Instagram using the #mappingmypark #ambientradiogoessonohr #ambientradio #sonohr (like this, we find your work!) OR:

  • Upload your sounds on Google drive. Please give your track the following title: yourname_day3. Like this we find your work for the weekly remix! OR:

  • Alternatively, drop an audiofile into our Telegram chat!

For today, we leave you to your great plans for your virtual garden … With one last thing to inspire you - for once it is for your eyes only

Happy gardening and we are curious to hear about the structures you found!

See you tomorrow!
