Season 2 / Week 2 / Day 6 Monday: Travelling to Portland, Oregon

Dear Ears!

How was your weekend?

Did you go to the movies? (to the scary movies? ;-) ) Or for a walk through the fields?

We used the weekend to travel quite far, all the way from Italy, we finally arrived in Portland, Oregon! Here, we will meet sound artist Patricia Wolf! Patricia will show us her world during this week - and she is our esteemed guest in the Ambient Radio Podcast!

Also, at some point during this week, things will get a bit explosive … :-) (stay tuned!)

But now, let's make good use of the early morning hours here in Portland - the air is still a bit chilly, and we are ready to meet Patricia in the Forest Park.

Patricia loves living in Portland, especially because she is close to stunning nature around. Her research focuses often on the sounds of natural life. Sauvie Island is another spot worth visiting with a stunning soundscape! The air is filled with birdsong!

Natural life is following the position of the sun… And Position from the Sun is the title of one of the tracks Patricia released a track last December … We love it!

And this special track magically brings us to this week's topic: We are going to observe how the change of light, the position of the sun and the passing time influences the sounds of a place.

To start the week we would like to share with you the following task:

Choose one of last week's soundscapes (places) you like to observe more closely. Go there in the morning and observe… How does the day start there? What sounds do you notice you did not see before? If it is still too early to go outside - simply open your window and record your morning…. Tell us a story about how your morning looks through the sounds you observe.

Again, we simply ask you to observe closely using your ears: Press start on your recorder, wait for one minute and press stop again.

Once you are happy with the result of your explorations - please do share it with us!
