Good morning dear Ambient Radio Community!
How are you doing?
Have you packed your bags and are ready for some more travelling?
This week, we will spend time in Kenya.
Or more precisely, in Kenya’s capital Nairobi.
The soundscape of Nairobi is very special and very dense….
Ready to go? Every explorer needs a good map, isn’t it? Here, you find a map featuring different soundscapes in Nairobi. Put on your headphones and go out and explore….
What is your favourite place?
And where might Pan hide? To tell the truth, we lost him when we boarded one of the crazy party Matatu’s in Nairobi…
They are so much fun! And how carefully these Matatus are decorated - just wow! We met a lot of supernice people there - but for our dear Pan, it was maybe a bit much… I am sure we will find him somewhere more remote….
We will go and look for him tomorrow….
Ok, again we got almost lost in time and space - but there is someone we are going to visit! Let’s go - Joseph Kamaru is waiting for us!
In our second podcast, we have the chance to have a long conversation with Joseph Kamaru about his work. Many of his compositions depart from field recordings. He encourages us all to go out and close our eyes and listen… Listen to how nature around us sounds.
Take a little break from reading right now and listen to the Ambient Radio podcast interview!
Are you ready to start your own experiments?
Let’s dive into this week's topic!
It is all about plants….
Even if you are living in a big city like Nairobi - plants are an important part of it. Trees, parks, even the small and forgotten patch of grass next to your letterbox….
What are the voices of the plants surrounding us? What do they tell us? Do you hear what they whisper to winds playing in their leaves?
The first task of this week is at the same time super simple and super complex.
Go out and listen to the plants….
(If you are not allowed to leave the house, listen to the potted plants in your apartment….).
Do they sound? Can you in any way make them sing?
Today's task is to record a sound your plant is creating.
Please share your sound and an image (it can be a picture /drawing / film of the natural thing that produces todays sound) with us:
Post a film / recording (around 1 minute in length) with an image on Instagram using the #myplantsings #ambientradio (like this, we find your work!) OR:
Upload your sounds on Google drive right here. Please give your track the following title: myplantsings_yourname_yourplace6. Like this we find your work for the weekly remix! OR:
Post an audiotrack on Telegram!
We are very curious to hear and see what plants are surrounding you and what they sing for us!
Thank you for being on this peculiar trip with us ….
Love and Kisses from Pan, Delia and the whole Ambient Radio Crew!
